Orkut preserves 6 months User Access Logs

Google will preserve for 6 months access logs of users being investigated for illegal conduct. It will also facilitate evidence gathering under judicial order in suspected crimes against children and teen-agers on Orkut without the need for international legal accords.

Statistics:

  • 8,000 Orkut photo albums accused of harbouring child pornography.

  • 20 involved child pornography on Orkut last year.

  • 90% of illegal Internet content being investigated in Brazil involves Orkut.

  • 624 investigations by federal prosecutors in Sao Paulo state through the end of last year into human rights crimes on the Internet

What information will be collected?
  • Your name, email address and an account password.
  • For certain services, such as our advertising programs, we also request credit card or other payment account information
  • Orkut does not work without Cookies. Google cookies from your computer that uniquely identifies your browser.Cookies to improve the quality of our service by storing user preferences and tracking user trends, such as how people search.
  • Servers will automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website.
  • Server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
  • When you send email or other communication to Google, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries.
  • Google may present links in a format that enables us to keep track of whether these links have been followed.

This information will be disclosed if resonably necessary to
  1. Satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request,
  2. Enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof,
  3. Detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, or
  4. Protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of Google, its users or the public as required or permitted by law.
When does Google Enforce?

Google regularly reviews its compliance with this Policy. When they receive formal written complaints at this address, it is Google's policy to contact the complaining user regarding his or her concerns. Google cooperates with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of personal data that cannot be resolved between Google and an individual.
