As reported by a media activist Mr Pranesh Prakash for the first time Indian citizens know the list websites that Indians were banned from accessing.

The eleven websites that the DIT acknowledges are blocked in India are:

  1. http://www.zone-h.org
  2. http://donotdial100.webs.com
  3. http://www.bloggernews.net/124029 [accessible from Tata DSL, but not from others like Reliance Broadband and BSNL Broadband]
  4. http://www.google.co.in/#h1=en&sourc…91fe993fa412ba
  5. http://www.cinemahd.net/desktop-enha…wallpaper.html
  6. http://www.chakpak.com/find/images/k…ra-hindi-movie
  7. http://www.submitlink.khatana.net/20…ngaged-to.html
  8. http://www.result.khatana.net/2010/1…-wardrobe.html
  9. http://www.facebook.com/pages/l-Hate…72025102828076
  10. http://www.indybay.org
  11. http://arizona.indymedia.org

It is unclear as to why the DIT decided to block these particular URL’s. The ban is not effective against proxy servers and VPN services which offer services to access websites from servers or tunnels located in different countries.

  • There are a lot more. This list is incomplete. Example: hinduunity.org, still banned in India, and unaccessible is not on this list.

This was requested through RTI. So this begs the question, how do we trust that the information we are getting back from RTI is complete and not redacted.
